I just installed an old 7'6" Western conventional on my 94 K5 Blazer and I'm having temperature problems arising from a lack of air flow. I plan on installing a new radiator, a 180 degree thermostat, and an external fan. Any thoughts on what else I can do to run cooler?

Once I fix that, I'm concerned about whether my factory suspension is adequate for doing a lot of driveways this winter. I'm grateful for any info you might have. Anyone else plow with this kind of truck?

Crank your torsion bars up half dozen turns. Add timbrens. I would flush your radiator and do fan clutch before adding a radiator. Dont forget your driving that truck in the summer time, and once it gets cold out it will act different. My 93 runs warm when its over 35 degrees with the plow on, I have to drop it low to get air in the rad.

The K5 has leaf springs. That is a 1/2 ton axle up front. Should be just fine. Do put some weight in the back to help with the balance and traction. If you did not have cooling issues without the plow, I wouldn't bee too worried. it will most likely be fine when the temp drops. Do the flush, make sure the clutch is working.

There is no 94 K5 with leaf springs up front. Its an IFS.Last leaf sprung K5 was the 1991.If the truck has the Z82 towing package,it should have a very large radiator. After a new clutch fan and if everything else checks out,id suspect its getting blocked internally with its age.(tow pkg trucks in 94 have an aux trans cooler, and an engine oil cooler in the hot tank side of the radiator). If you dont have the Z82 towing package the rad isnt nearly as large, and you may have issues even with a decent cooling system.Your going to have to run with the blade almost on the ground .If you have a pic yout own salvage yard around and are handy you can grab a fan shroud and baffles out of a tow pkg truck, and get a new radiator, and longer upper hose ,probably would solve your problems for less than $400.00.Just dont hook up the engine oil cooler.I did this to a friends 92 K1500,as it ran very hot in summer towing w A/C on,the swap totally solved the problem.

I had a new 94 GMC Yukon 2 door 4x4 and ran a 71/2 conv.
Western straight blade. It always ran around 200 or so depending
on how high you ran the blade while going down the road.

Heck my 07 Chevy runs 210 no matter what!

What temp is your rig running?
