AGM batteries are not they are cracked up to be.They have their place, but not in a plow truck.Do a web search and do some reading.A lot of it has to do with charging them properly, which isn't going to happen in a plow truck.

Two lead acid group 31's would be a better choice.
Sorry for the mis-information, Wyldman got me thinking, so I checked the owner's manuel and the Odyssey is a Dry Cell, not AGM like I thought. Wyldman is right, an alternator couldn't possibly fill ONE of these things up, let alone two. But the performance is so amazing and the reserve is so deep that it seems like they won't ever run down.

These and the large case alternator I have really put an end to my juice problems.
Sort of forgot aboot this thread.

Have to tell you, both Chris and Pro are very wrong aboot these batteries. I have them in almost all my trucks now. Never had a drained battery while plowing yet, unless the alternator was bad.

I even overcharged a set after forgetting to shut my charger off when my alternator died and those are functioning perfectly.

Also have them in my F800 which is minus a grid heater and needs to be cranked and cranked and cranked as the block heater isn't too great, either.

I have to give a definite thumbs up to these batteries, I was really surprised to see how old this thread was. My original set is over 4 years old and never skips a beat.

Back when this thread was started they were great, they are not as good any longer.Like many they are living off their past reputation, kinda like Toyota.
Are you talking aboot the batteries?

I bought several last year and they have been fine. At least 2 trucks and my RTV received them last year.

Just ordered another set.

Not sure what you mean about Toyo, either. I believe it was just announced that there was never a problem found with the alleged mystery acceleration that they were ripped for.

Or am I missing something, could be, it's been a long week again. 7 days in a row with at least one more coming and that forecast for rain tomorrow better hold as I don't have enough salt for an ice storm.

Sorry to bump an oldie!

Currently have a pair of OPTIMA Red tops in my truck.

They are 6 years and 9 months old. Starting to get a hard start. One must be going.

Looking into replacing them.

Heard about the Odyssey batteries.

Any new info on them?

Prices on a 34/78 dual terminal Odyssey vs the same in an Optima?

To say I was happy with the Optima's would be an understatement. Almost 7 years of plowing and starting/stopping all day long with mowing. Most is with 4 ways on and strobe beacon on as I'm mowing.

I was never able to get more than 3-4 seasons out of a set standard lead acid batteries. Often times I would get free batteries or pro-rated as they never lasted.

Thanks in advance!

Anyone?

Best place to buy?

Other good or bad reviews?

Still happy with mine, other than they're in Ford's. Wish the rest of the trucks was as good as the batteries.

Apparently we're never going to get an answer from jmac about what he was referring to.

I bought them online from the factory.

Odysessy batteries

I installed an odysessy battery last year, what a difference highly recommend. They are $$$ but well worth it. The sear platinum is a knock off but not as many options on sizes. I forget but their is a difference between the two, odyessy being the better choice. As far as optima they are'nt the same since they soldout (to interstate I think)

May look into the Diehard Platinums (34/78). Only drawback is the standard wide top post orientation.

I like the Optima's as they have narrow set top posts. My passenger side aux battery tucks under the firewall a bit. I like using the top and side posts (34/78) as it gives a lot more options when it comes to connecting all my wires.

The Optima reviews I read about the past few days indicate that there must be some quality control issues.

The Odyssey reviews seem a bit better, and so do the DH Platinums. Plus with the Diehards, I don't have to wait for shipping. Just go to the local Sears store.

I have to make sure the build dates are the same though.
