Summit County Ohio just issued a snow emergency ban for all non emergency vehicles to be off the road. Two wheel drive police cars, 2 wheel drive ambulances and Fire - EMS are allowed on the roads all others are banned.

Have you heard of such a stupid act? We help the problem not hinder the problem of heavy snow fall.

Did Summit County Ohio just purchase a lot of snow plow companies?

Oh and BTW they closed down a ski resort due to heavy snow... have you ever heard of such stupidty?

i'm pretty sure that they're more concerned with the morons who go out in the horrible weather for no good reason and then don't yield to emergency vehicles. especially because the people that don't yield are the first to ask "what took you so long?" when you arrive on scene.

We've had these types of ban's over the years. I have always stayed out and plowed. 99% of the time they will not pull over a plow truck.
I have a special priority as I plow the NYS Troopers barricks, a main post office hub and 2 retirement homes that have to be kept clear 24/7 as they have ambulances in there 6-7 times a day sometimes.
I have seen guys get pulled over before and even forced to turn back and head the other way. I will tell you this, do not get in the way of a county, state or town plow as they will not slow down.

Missing the target

I understand what the County Sherriff is doing. He wants the non essential vehicles off the road. No joy riding and use common sence. But to close down 3 ski resorts because of to much snow? I think they missed the goal. They didnt close down the super markets or bars. This is just poor use of power in my opinion.

I was driving a loader through town today and saw police cars stuck. People with the proper equipment for driving in the snow should be allowed to drive. Snow plow contractors do help the snow removal process. I just dont like to invest the money in the company and have someone who is not versed on snow removal and salting calling the shots. You have to make hay while the sun shines. Or is that make money while the snow is on the ground.

The best thing they could do is close the ski resorts. Do you really want every moron with an SUV driving with a car load of kids to go skiing? As for general driving bans, if you think the cops have nothing beter to do than pull over a plow truck in a blizzard I think your sadly mistaken.

What's the panic, anyway? How much snow are they getting, a foot? :huh

Totally agree. They should have closed all public places. I think if you have a plow on your truck you are OK. I dont' think cops will pull you over. That would be pretty stupid. They don't want the paperwork.

Or... You could take advantage, and park your truck while the ban is in place, and when the customers scream about the outrageous bill for you having to deal with a foot and a half at a time, refer them to the agency that had the brilliant idea to tell you your couldn't service them. I'd probably stay out in it myself, as long as I could keep moving between accounts and keep servicing them...

Ive seen Midland do this many times over the years and my trucks along with several other contractors cont to plow with the storm , i have never been pulled over or my guys.

Has for the only a foot thing come on at least in the Midwest you plow with it screw that beating the crap out of my equipment pushing off over a foot at a time, a 12 incher plus up here running over 12 hrs would be a three push storm with clean up iam not loosing that kind of revenue havent had a comerical argue a bill yet in 19yrs contracted to 2 inches taking off every 3-4 to keep them open is the norm.

The buss"s that have pulled that were not open crap on the weekend and you could have waited til it was all done become someone elses sweetheart not mine.

This may be were you questioned the number of times the XLS was out Alan not 49 events 49 plow runs the revenue on 49 events depending on there nature could be 80 plus pushes when it comes to end of year profits thats a hudge loss to take pushing single totals for one storm.

I would say in the times the city here has closed down its been on a min of a 15 incher and again ill take the ticket for every one of my trucks before they try to push that all at once.

I only ever recall one "state of emergency" here for snow where vehicles were asked to stay home. Even in 18 & 20" dumps they don't call for it unless it's an ice event, snow isn't likely to cause a closure of roads.

As for pushes, we only charge after 12" for a second plowing. Most storms we plow 2-4 times anyway as 6-8" storms are the norm and with the blizzard clause in my "contract" we charge double for 12"+. Doesn't matter how wet or how much, just double over 12.

If we figured pushes instead of storms I wouldn't even want to know where we stand. I'm too tired to even want to think about it.

Dave i'm not sure whats going on up there with your county people but down here in the southern part of the state the plows have keeped on moving. We went under a level 3 late Friday night and all day on Sat. About the only time we stopped or got off the roads was to find something to eat. Sat morning we were having breakfast when 4 city cops came in and ate also. They never said a thing but good morning and be careful out there.

So its got to be your county addmin who has it all wrong. Sorry.

How is that Crown Vic going to catch you? LOL
BTW: we usually park the CVs and use the Impalas here when it snows, not that we know what snow is this year. :(

As the resident law enforcement guy, don't worry about getting a ticket. I know in the past 8 years, they have shut everyone down twice, and there never has been a ticket issued. It is more to keep joe citizen off of the roadway, cause they are the ones that are causing the problem, not the plow contractor trying to take care of business.

We've had about 5 of those emergencys in the last 20 or so.I just ignore them, and keep on plowing, none of my friends or my trucks have been pulled over.Besides what are they going to do pull you over in a white out with no shoulder and 6" of snow in the travel lane with 100 ft visability?I keep my amber warning lights on when its that bad,and just keep working as best i can.

I think we had one awhile back and i just kept working could not see 25' in front of the truck but i had 8 strobes and 4 hidaways going at the time did not even see a cop .

Well, since you said it, this is sort of my philosophy. If they want to give me a ticket that bad and can catch me, I'll pay it. Chances are they won't, though.

Not sure we've ever been to the point of closing the roads to private vehicles, nobody would listen anyways, but when I used to have a scanner in my truck I remember a couple times the Sheriff Dept pulling their cars off the roads except for emergencies. Usually this occurs after they get stuck trying to take off from an intersection, while stopped for a red light.

They recommend that people stay off the roads, but that just means everyone needs to run out and get bread and milk, but stop at the bank on the way for money and gas for the car just in case, then might just as well pick up some videos for during the storm and heck, while I'm out, might as well get a pizza for tonight. Might need a new shovel for when the storm is past, then I need a new outfit for shoveling and finally fill up with gas and cash before they head back home.
