I bought a Rain-X kit last fall came with both the window stuff and the additive for the washer fluid / deicer. Seemed to work good for a while. Then like Chris said got smeary and left some hard to clean off smudges. I don’t know if it was because I used both types at the same time or not. I’m back to just clean glass now. I have found that cleaning the wiper blades with those cleaner wipes seems to help me a lot.

Now that you mention it I did treat all my windows and I don’t remember any problems except with the windshield. So maybe the trick is to use the deicer stuff on the front and the treatment stuff on the sides and rear.
I had the same thing happen as you as the blade would pass over the window it would ghost over for just a second. That was the major visibility problem and then I also accumulated this smudgy stuff at the end of the wiper travel. Maybe I’ll give it a second chance doing it that way.
