I use conventional automotive anenna stems which I get at the local wrecking yard for next to nothing. They use a 1/4 " female thread to mount to the base. They are cheap and plentiful.
I slp a bright yellow curly airline over them and use a heat gun to shrink the sleeve over the stem. Hope this can help!
