Hi

I'm looking at a Boss Straight Plow without the mounts, i have found a set of mounts , but I'm confused between the RT3, RT3 Sport duty and the RTII, are they all interchangeable? or are they diffrent and can not be interchangeable?

Any thing different with the wiring harnesses? Brand specific? or are they universal

Thanks

Jay

I'm no expert, but here goes:

I have an RT2 and an RT3. Should be the same mount on the truck, IIRC.

RT2 uses an 11 pin harness, the automatic attach is activated by switching the Smart Hitch switch on the side of the light tower into the upward position, and then running the controller in the raise plow position. If I'm correct, it reverses the pump to push the tower up, and the pins should pop into place.

RT3 uses a 13 pin harness, and the automatic attach is activated solely by the Samrt Hitch switch on the light tower. Same attachin technique - just no need to go back to the controller to activate the Rapid Tach.

Now this is where I get a little cloudy - IIRC the plows will function on either harness, but the Smart Hitch may not function as designed.

What adds to my confusion is I used to have an RT1 - different mount system with no pins, but "cleats" to attach the plow. Double lift cylinders down low on the plow, instead of the big single cylinder out front.

I'm sure somone will correct the incorrect parts....

Dave, I *think* you've got something messed up there.

RT2 and RT3 are two different generations of quick-attach hitch and are not interchangeable. My blades are RT2, which are manual hookup (via lever), ie: no power lifting. Those are RT3's with the power lift.

I *think* what you are describing are Smarthitch and Smarthitch2, which again I think were the power hookup on the RT3's.

Look at the pix in this auction:

That would be an RT3 style mount--note the 'hooks'. I cant find any pix of an RT2 at the moment, but those 'hooks' are not there, instead there are perminant welded-in cross pins.

In a nutshell, you need to determine what you have and get the correct mount to suit. They don't swap.

I think what you are referring to as an RT1 is an RT2, but there was an even earlier version of the Boss plow that hooked up with pins and such.... to add to the confusion there are some that the headgear stays on the truck instead of the blade.....

Its way too much to type but there are differences. Take a look at the boss web site in the technical services area and look at the manuals for each. RT 2&3 are both detaching headgear and the mounts are different as well as the harnesses.

The electric side of the hook up is not defined as the RT but rather called "Smart Hitch" and "Smart Hitch 2" Just like Derek mentioned.

You cannot get a RT2 series plow to connect to an RT3 sub frame or visa versa.

With all that said, any like plow series straight or V will hook to any frame of the same series. i can put a 7' Super duty straigh plow on a truck that normally runs a 9'2" V so long as it is the same seies being an RT2 or an RT3
