Plow..

I was reading your post on pda intergration... my first thought is if someone was to log into a website that stored the information they could be anywhere to get it.. not just pda.. but home or office or even airport location... specially since a lot now have broadband access via cell phone...

The other thing I was thinking about that depending on the steadiness of the routes.. mapquest now has a feature that you can build your route.. find if you keep a steady route... that also might help bterry.. maybe..
Man I must be behind the times. I dont even have broadband on my home/office computer.

There is a company called IVdesk (internet virtual) that does that. You basically log on to their server and all of your stuff pops up. Similar to this. But it is your whole desktop...all program lic. are provided too (microsoft office, quickbooks, etc). I'm just not keen on someone else having "all" of my information. It is a good thought.

Now if I or we here in MN could get some snow I would look into getting a program. But with only 3 events this year it is pretty easy to keep track of.:(

GSLAM88 - I think you nailed it. I spent some time evaluating an app for PDAs, but not so sure it is the best approach. I am now evaluating a completely re-written web based version that would work very much as you described - engine and data accessible via web based clients (no location restrictions). I doubt that I could get something like this done this season. I will continue my investigation and will post any updates here.

I appreciate you taking the time to make comments and suggestions.

P.S.
PlowTrax is on sale for 1/2 price (that's only 50 bucks) until Valentines Day !!!

Thanks,
Bill

StratfordPusher......
I can build you a version with Canadian Postal Codes and Provinces, etc.
(no extra charge so long as the data maps to the current states and zips scheme).
Send me an email (plowtrax@comcast.net) if you want me to build you a trial.
I will need your list of Postal Codes, etc.

Thanks,
Bill

Here is a solution for Web based access to ANY program on your PC.
Logmein.com provides a FREE, Secure way for Remote Access of your PC and it's applications. I have been using their free version to monitor and troubleshoot customer sites. It is very easy to set up and use. If you are interested in remote access to your applications and data, this might do the trick and won't cost you a cent, plus, you have full control of your data.

Go to www.logmein.com and check out the Logmein Free product.

I hope this is helpful.

See now that would make me feel better. That my stuff is on my computer. I like the IVDesk concept but when it comes down to it I want to be in control of my "stuff".

Yours-Free-If-No-Snow I wouldn't put my money on that....we are bound to get some snow. I just wish it was more regularly. See if you lived here you would have plenty of time in between snowfalls to write all kinds of programs.:grinz

BDB - We are having the same thing here in NH.
Only 2 inches on the ground since last week and none before that.
Absolutely no snowmobiling in this part of the state.
I have managed to keep busy, but not working on PlowTrax.
I've been working on programs for some of my other customers.
Hopefully I can get back on PlowTrax soon.

Concerning a web based PlowTrax......
The more I think about it, the more I like the idea of just using the logmein remote access product with PlowTrax. I am thinking there is no need to reinvent the wheel as far as remote access.

P.S.
The next PlowTrax release will have Route stuff and then hoping to address charging by snow-depth in another future release.

Please stay tuned.......

I use the charge by depth to some extent, base charge for trigger to 5.99 inches, 1.5 base charge 6-9.99 inches, and 2x base 10plus. Are/will these type of things be individually modifiable in upgrades?

Any others using this with feedback?
