The u edge works great on expansion joints, at least the ones cut into concrete sidewalks, which the steel edge would catch. I do about 15 miles of sidewalk with a Trackless, I had some wear concerns with the U-edge I tried last year, the wear was about the same or a little less then the steel edge. This year I installed an edge from Superior, only have about 75 miles on it and it's just worn into the cutting edge angle, a little early to tell if it will wear longer. The Trackless blade is a full trip design, and the U-edge eliminated any tripping on the uneven joints, and a lot easier on the operator.
