Meyer plow wiring woes

I have a meyer stright blade (do not know what kind) and i'm using a pistol grip controller (22690X) as well as the nite saber 2 light setup. The documentation has me very confused and as a result i just fried my controller.

Documentation says i can eliminate the plow light switch if i hook up the orange wire to my plow light harness orange wire, and supply the line with 12V. I did this..hooked up my controller and smoke started pouring out of it. I'm not sure if i hooked this up wrong somehow? Very hesitant to drop $350 on another controller just for it to burn up again. Can anyone speak to how they have theirs wired up?

The orange wire is usually hooked up to the light switch inside the cab. The other end of the light switch is hooked up to a fused 12 volt supply, so you would be supplying power to the light modules to activate them to turn off your truck lights and turn on your plow lights. This setup was used with either the toggle switches for plow control or the old square electronic controller by Meyers. It was never meant to be used with a pistol grip controller, so that may be your problem. With the old controller, you can operate the plow regardless as to which headlights are on or neither lights. Be sure to hook up your 2 black ground wires on the light harness, or plow lights or turns signals will not work. Hope this works. You also may have an issue with DRL, which is daytime running lights. Hope this helps.
