I am buying a plow for my Silverado 2500, primarily to plow my own driveway. I am considering signing up a few (something like 3-5) local residential or very small commercial properties to plow as well, and possibly handling a job from Plowz or SnoHub once in a while. I have another full time day job, so this would be far from a full-time gig - really just a way to offset some of the cost of the plow while getting experience. I looked into changing my auto insurance from personal to commercial and adding a GCL policy, but the price really would eat up anything I would make plowing so few properties. A family member does something similar plowing a few properties when he gets off work, but I suspect he doesn’t carry any commercial coverage. I wouldn’t be as comfortable doing that since my regular job is as an attorney - I defend quite a few clients in snow/ice related cases. Has anyone added commercial auto/GCL coverage for only the few months of the year while you’re plowing? Any other ideas for adding more affordable coverage? This may just not be worth it if the insurance is that expensive.
