Im a noob to this site
been rebuilding my Myer E 47 7.5 plow for the 75 Dodge.
have a D4 CAT to plow when there is a lot of snow.
the CAT is slow and cold to operate, but moves the Ice berm with ease.
Id like to get a clevis mount to put the meyer plow on my 2001 GMC Sierra Ex cab 4X4 1500

contemplating a new home owner plow for the GMC
Costco has it [easy return]
DK2 88"X 26" it raises and lowers with a winch
manual angle [comes with a remote control a mount for the truck]
assembly required :D

I read reviews of mostly city folks using them and they seem to like it "ok"
a couple retired pro plow guys like it "ok"

maybe some here might have something to say about the K2?

conditions here tend to change a lot [North Idaho] in the woods South Of CDA
kinda S.E. of Spokane
a few times we got several inches of snow. a few times 18 to 20 some inches. it varies.
my drive is all down hill and easy to truck plow.
the neighbor used to do the whole 3/4 mile up the hill to her house with a 4 wheeler.
she was a stay at home Mom then and cleared it out while her hubby was at work.
they have a truck plow with an 8' western that is great, but she wont run it as either hubby or I can plow out the hill - she says there is no need for her to drive the big truck.
[its just a Ford pickup] ;)

my drive is about half mile [4 tenths mile] to the county road and I have been plowing it and the lot up here and the lot down by the county road as it is a good place for the shy ones to park their cars and wait for a ride up the hill.

it is a pretty easy gravel drive I plow out about 10 to 12 feet wide and if the berm gets high?
the D4 can move it if it freezes down too much for the truck plow.
[I plow wider than when my neighbor guy plows] he is used to it melting out as he is a newcomer to country living] ;)

I saw that too.
the meyer home plow is a little light. and spendy for what it is. IMO
the K2 there looks ok, but needs to pay another $348 for a truck mount
@ costco it comes with the mount and less $ plus a nice return policy if its not what I need. ok - "want" ;)

that meyer plow from depot with the power angle and all looks mighty fine.
but 3k before its mounted is more than I need to spend for a spare plow.
Id rather get another engine put in the Dodge truck and use the plow on it as a more reliable back up. the meyer is ok, just light weight. again IMO ;)

Go for the K-2 if you like the system. If it breaks you have a return policy. So, you are pretty safe.

Sounds like with a K 2 you will be out in the GMC 1500 a lot in any decent snow fall... i think the plow will stand up to the usage if used as recommended. I think having a non power angling plow will be a wearing feature when weather is cold and blowing snow and you have to change the angle. I think you should think long and hard about those features of the plow. You might need to night plow in -10 or so and If you don’t go out you will be in the cold D4 in the morning.

I prefer to plow in the daylight - I have spoiled myself. ;)
it can always wait until daylight. as the wife isnt scheduled to leave for work until after 9AM - sometimes later.
the limitations of the K2 has been my concern as it might just not be up for me waiting until daylight.
If the night really calls to me - I can use the Dodge with the meyer plow.
it is also limited, but there is the warm cab and it has lights and I know my road as I have been here a few years. for the last 10 years the pickup plowed fine. only twice I "had" to use the D4. it has lights too - front and back that do a fine job when I used it after dark.
being retired has its advantages. :D

That is a good question about the K2 plow is how much can it handle. They make a plow mount for a Ford F-250 Superduty and GMC 2500HD truck so that is for a plow that weighs 284-384lbs. Too me that is really light weight. But, I guess they have figured out the maximum loads on this plow. I just don’t see it handling 10” of snow at a time. But, I could be totally wrong. I have no experience with this small plow.... My advice is buy it and return it to Costco if it is junk.

I was correct... the manual only recommends plowing 3-6” deep snow at a time. And no ice at all...

I have a couple of questions is the Meyer plow being rebuilt and how reliable is the dodge? If this plow is only a back up on the GMC I really don’t think you will be bad off in this purchase since it won’t be used in the heavy storms...

I got it while looking for a piston for the 1936 D4
this D4 was there with glo plugs and electric start! what an advance over the old pony motor start up.
The Dodge truck has low miles [under 90k] but the motor is tired and needs rebuilt or better yet replaced :) its a dodge - it dont like to start when its cold.

the meyer plow I have is operating in all directions, but it too [IMO] is a light duty plow when compared to the Western 8' I had run. but I have the Meyer and would be happy to find the truck mount so it would run on the 2001 GMC.

the K2 was just an easy to get and bolt on thing that might work in light snow.
we get a lot of light snow [powder] here and I like to plow when it reaches 3"
so it dont build up.
a couple times it fell at night and we had 18" and to my surprised the meyer plowed just right as it was powder snow

my thoughts about the K2 is like yours - it might be ok in light [powder]
and an easy return If Its not good enough for that.

I am still hoping to get the clevis/truck mount to fit the meyer on the GMC.

the K2 is on a sale and with the plow and mount with everything to make it "operational" its priced 1499. delivered curbside.
so I might try that - "maybe" ;)

The Dodge is a little on the vintage side of the spectrum. However, I would strongly consider putting a Cummins BT 5.9L Diesel engine in the ‘75 through a 6spd manual gearbox and transfer case with a doubler on it. Not to mention an air locker in the front and back axles... it would be similar to a Walter setup almost.

The 7.5’ size Meyer plow could be on the lighter side but 7.5 was pretty heavy duty in the 1970’s and 1980’s for a 1/2ton truck. The Western 8’ plow is pretty heavy duty for a 1/2 ton truck. But, I think your Meyer plow is pretty stout for your application. I’ve used a 7.5’ Western on a GMC in very heavy snow 20 plus inches deep. So, I have faith in the Meyer plow you own.

The K2 I think is an acceptable back up only if you use it as recommended. Of course I could be wrong—it could be a totally crappy setup. However, with a no questions asked return policy are you really at risk? No! So, it seems for a very low input value you can get possibly a higher value output then with a used or more expensive setup. At least from a risk analysis of the product. So, to be honest the biggest drawback I see is the lack of power angle and the actual truck side mount. Which to me are greatly offset by the relative safety of the purchase via the return policy.

As for the D4 that sounds like a great little dozer. Do you have more pictures? What are it’s specs dish about the technical features...

Yeah, because no one ever repowers and older vehicle with a more modern engine and transmission...
Perhaps BUFF's comment wasn't about the repower but more about the cost to repower. The guy is looking for a $1400.00 homeowner plow from Costco which would indicate he's frugal or has a small budget to work with. Either way why would you think he should repower a 40+ yo pickup so it can have traction like a Walter?

Does a guy with a Walter fetish ever seem like a practical sorta guy? The truth is the idea struck me as cool... if I like an idea I explore it in my mind practical or not.
