hey all...........A Lowballer bagged the local fire dept.
up the street again this year.

Well as always crummy once a day 7 am push equals LOW BID!

Since we are just off the state route which is plowed and
salted 24/7. Our village maint. street is NOT plowed till
5 am daily or later..........

So from the corner past my place to the firebarn is always
BURIED with Snow at 3 am. So being a dumb citizen I always plow the street up to the firebarn not leaving ANY piles in the
street and just clearing in front of the firetruck doors so
they can get out and to the state route.

The LOWBALLER stops me and carries on I am leaving snow
at the firebarn etc. I LAUGH and tell him to get lost!
I say hey LOWBALLER...I clean these doors out EVERY storm
for FREE while you are sitting home counting your $$$$$.
Where are you? Gee last week at Sat. nite Bingo at the hall
YOU didn't plow OR salt and a lady fell and broke her arm !!!!!!!!!

HOPE YA GET SUED !

Today the head member of the fire dept. board corners me
at the bank and starts in. I tell him to get lost too because he don't know what hes talking about !
I reminded him that i plow in front of the barn doors for FREE
while his LOWBALLER is not to be found !
Ya get what ya pay for pal. If you have anything to say to me
send a registered letter to me and talk to my LAWYER !!!!!

Whats funny is I plow the bank we were art and BUSTED his chops...I said look at this lot pal...CLEAN and Salted 24/7 !!!!!!!
Ya get what ya pay for !!!!!!!!!!!!!

The lady that fell last week was at the bank at that moment.
I said lady.....Heres the guy YOU need to talk too.
IF I WERE YOU I would sue them. Its there fault NOT yours !
SUE THEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ok rant off.....Medication engaged!............geo:headwall

BTW: Before anybody flames me over fireman......

They do a AWESOME job for NO pay out here !
Its not the rank and file guys...Its the head mucky mucks !

My grampa was a fireman with the Nedrow NY FD for about
50 yrs. He rose the ranks from fireman to Capt. in his
years there................

I really have no problem doing the freebie. Ya never know
when those trucks gotta ROLL to save a LIFE !

I'm wondering though, could someone go after you seeing that you plow that area? Although you are doing it for free what would happen if someone were to say that by your act of plowing, you exposed a patch of ice which I slipped on.
As nice as it is that you are doing the work I think I'd let them experience the real thing, poor /no workmanship as done by your local "lowballer".

I would also be concerned about liability. What if the current contractor messes up,and something happens. They could try to pin it on you,if you have touched the property.I never drop the blade unless I have reason to do so,and I am getting paid for it.

I'd do up a good proposal, outlining what should be done, and make note of what the current contractor ISN'T doing.Take it to the right person, present your proposal, and try to get the contract. Then you can do it right, and get paid to do so.

whats confusing is that you've been trying to get this contract for 10 yrs and then you go and plow for free? it's no wonder they go with the lowballer........between his crappy work and your free work they're probably all set.

why not let the lowballer hang him self. just sit back wait and be patient. they will soon realize you get what you pay for.

ps- i can only imagine what would happen when they get a call at 3am and can't make it out!

I would stay away from the freebies. Like Wyldman said, they could come after you. I am a vol. fireman and have been for 12 years. I bid the firehouse 2 years ago and gave them a little break. Well I was the lowest bidder and they gave it to another member who was only a member for 2 years. There is your good ol boy clause. I will not waste my time bidding it again ever. All of the old timers like me, I don't get along with most of the guys that are around my age, (Majority of the members). Now when they ask me to do work, plumbing, tile work, use my tractor, I charge them like any other person. To tell you the truth, I make more $ on other accounts with less plowing. Go figure.:cash

WELL GUYS.........Just met with the Fire Chief.....
He danced around the bush.......What a IDIOT !!!!!!!!!!

Ya know for 15 years they advertised MY parking lot for the
annual fireman parade to park in. It passes in front of my place and I have warned them time and time again about liability and
such advertising MY PROPERTY as a parking lot for the field
days and parade !

He always gives me the stroke JOB.........................

SO a happy letter from my LAWYER today will fix their wagon !

This sucks to do this...But what ya gonna do ??????

Well Guys...........Its 9 pm there is OVER a foot of white
gold in front of the firebarn doors ! ( I measured )
The weather guessers only called for 7-10 inches ! LOL!

My street is also unplowed . I did plow 20 ft. off the
state route to the entrance to my bar tho !....LOL
Gotta make $$$$$$$$$

The lowballer is nowhere to be found !

Should I be a good citizen and give them a quick shot in
front of the doors only or just wait till tomorrow AM when
the lowballer shows up?

Or maybe I should call the head mucky muck and COMPLAIN !
Or do nothing........and hope those brave rank and file guys
have no calls tonite. ????????????? ....... Geo:headwall

it sounds to me like your holding a grudge.......just let it go already. you keep bidding on this account and getting stiffed......why even bid anymore? go after something else. i dont see the problem here? they dont like the favor, and you arent happy, so go find another location to plow?

Start a bunch of pallets on fire and call them to put it out. Just make sure it's just beyond the reach of their fire hose conections at the barn. J/K
Just smile, you know the job you could do for them. Hopefully they won't have to go to a fire only to find they're snowed in.

Don't worry about it. I'm in kind of the same spot. There is a Post Office I bid on every year, knowing I won't get it. But I keep bidding, just to be a pain in the a--. Then, by law, they have to send me notice of who is awarded the contract. I keep the notice in a file.

GRUDGE.....YOU BET......the SAME LOWBALLER also has the post office/village square bid in town here.
Lots of complaints by fellow plowhead contractors also.
A LOT of town folks always complaining about lousy service............... They always park across the street in
MY lot and walk over !
Many comment to the bank and I how nicely the lot is
ALWAYS plowed and salted !........LOL

But so far this year 1 broken arm in the unplowed village
square post office AND another at the firebarn lot after
bingo game last Sat.

GEE, I wonder how much its gonna COST ME & other
taxpayers when settled ?

Me, I could care less about getting the contract because
I bid it SKY HIGH with 24/7 service!
I own my own businesses so plowing other than my own
places makes no difference to me!......geo:D

Yeah, take your medications already :)
Why bother plowing them if they don't want you to? Sounds like you're making a potential lawsuit against yourself.

Are you trying to win them over by plowing them out still, even when given so much grief over it?

Just curious.

DT........i mostly do it to BUST BALLS now thats all !
Especially when they TRIPLE my fire tax yearly because
they need that NEW $275,000 rescue truck to sit around.

Or that new $200,000 ambulance they bought 2 yrs. ago
and do NOT provide ANY transport service or EMT service
either anymore........

Heck, ya need a EMT or ambulance ya gotta call Rural metro
ambulance service for $1000 bucks a pop !

Or when the CRYBABY head guys fight over fire calls with
the town fire dept. etc. etc. They now are at war over
combining both for better coverage and less costs !

But there SURE is enough $$$$$ to go on those seminars in Cancun, Vegas, etc.....

YADA, YADA !:soapbox
