Homemade controller

I am the owner of a FS JetSonic (would say proud owner, but I haven't gotten it yet). I need a controller. I have access to 10A and 25A rocker switches. Do the boxes out there have relays in them, or just heavy duty switches? If I make my own box, do I run a big guage hot in and split that to all the switches? Does anyone have a document for building one? Trying to keep costs down.

Thanks....

I'm pretty sure the boxes just have heavy duty rockers and built in fuses, for my switches in my center console I just ran a 6 gauge wire from my battery to an auxillary fuse box under my console then yes, each wire for each switch has it's own spot on the auxillary fuse block. Basically it's cheaper I think to do it the way i did over buying a box, but a box would make installation much quicker and less work. If you have the money I'd get a switch box, built in fuses and everything.

Thanks Mowerpan....I can get just about everything I need for nothing. I will give it a shot. I need to figure out how I want to switch it.

I have:
rotators
alleys
front flashers
rear flashers
takedowns

Do I use 5 switches, or do I want to control each alley independently, Same with the flashers. One switch for all, or seperate for front and rear.

I would set the light up so that there are four switches

rotators
alleys
front and rear flashers
takedowns

This wouldbe the least complicated and most useful arrangement, and is how we set up the tow trucks' lights.

You will typically want the front and rear flashers to come on together, as theycan be used as an alternative to the rotators. The takedowns and alleys should be separate, but the two alleys should be on the same switch, just for conveneince, and less clutter. I found a 4 switch Federal Signal switch box on ebay for $30, that was most cost-effective than buying all the parts and making my own. I made on a few years ago, but didnt use heavy enough wire to run everything, and instead of rewiring everything and making it all over, I chose ot go an easier route, plus I have lighted legends, a VERY nice feature.

Thanks Ron, but since I can get everything I need for free, I'm gonna try my luck at making one. I have seen some boxes on E-Bay for about $30, so I know not to spend money making one.

Thanks for the opinions...
